Two Book Groups at the ALP Library

There are two book discussion groups at the library -- one meets from September to May, and one meets during the summer months (July-August).  Why two groups?  They're a little bit different from each other...

The September - May group introduces a selection of books that covers different genres and authors.  You may attend as many discussions as you'd like on the Sundays noted below, from 3:00 - 4:00pm.

November 24: The Shakespeare Requirement by Julie Schumacher

The July - August group reads four books chosen by a committee, and each book in the series follows a particular theme.  For example, the 2019 Summer Group read fiction books that were based upon the lives of artists.  If possible, it's nice to attend all of the sessions and watch the theme develop and grow.  The group meets on the Wednesdays noted below, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm.  The season ends with a movie based on one of the book selections.

Here's the list for Summer 2020 (if you'd like to get a head start)!  The theme is: A Look South: 1860's to 1969

       1. The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead  (Pulitzer Prize winner set in the 1860's)

       2. The Reivers by William Faulkner  (Pulitzer Prize winner set in early 1900's; made into.a movie starring Steve McQueen.)

       3. The Book Woman of Troublesome of Creek by Kim Michele Richardson  (Set in 1930's Appalachia)

       4. The Water Is Wide by Pat Conroy (set in 1969 on a South Carolina island)
