Having trouble getting your streaming services up and running on your smart TV? Want to enjoy the fine selection of films and documentaries found on Kanopy? This course will quickly explain how to download and install any and all streaming services on your television, how to sign into these services, and how to navigate them using your remote.

Learning about Linux - November 12th @ 11:00 AM

As Microsoft continues to make the Windows operating system less and less friendly to users, introducing invasive recording services and unnecessary AI tools that bog down less powerful hardware, there is an alternative that can be used in the form of the Free and Open Source operating system, Linux. This course will introduce you to Linux, its differences from Windows, how it can be installed on your machine, and why you might want to consider using it.

Art Through Your Computer - Dec. 10th @ 11:00 AM

Art is something that anyone can do, and as digital tools have become more and more accessible, it has become possible for anyone who wants to express themselves in an artistic manner, regardless of skill level. This course is meant to introduce you to programs you can use to learn or make digital art at any skill level, and give you a starting point that you can use to start learning how to make art digitally, even if all you have is a monitor, a keyboard, and a mouse.

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative

The Alice L. Pendleton Library is a proud member of the Sustainable Libraries Initiative and obtained certification as a Sustainable Library in the summer of 2025.

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative (SLI) provides library leaders with a proven path forward to co-create libraries and communities that will thrive in the coming years. The Sustainable Library Certification Program and the SLI community of practice has enabled the ALP Library to become more environmentally sound, socially equitable and economically feasible.

Examples of the Library's commitment to sustainable practices include: being Net Zero with heat pumps, solar panels, insulation and LED lighting: participating in the local farmers' market to support island businesses (at the same time promoting literacy); and holding an annual book sale that not only helps off-set the burden to taxpayers but also repurposes discarded and donated books.

Our final presentation was given on all the ways in which we are working to make the Alice L. Pendleton Library as sustainable as possible. If you are interested in seeing the results for yourself, you can look over a PDF version of the presentation by Clicking Here.

Don't See What You Want in the Library?
Here's How to Get It!

Inter-library Loan

In most cases, we can request a book from another library and have it within a few days. Just ask at the circulation desk.

Request for Purchase

We love getting requests and recommendations! If we think a book, DVD, magazine, newspaper, game, or database should be in the ALPL collection, we’ll buy it and let you know when it is available for check-out. You can make requests by clicking here.

Cloud Library

Hundreds of e-books and audio books are available on Cloud Library through our website. Just go to alplibrary.org, click on “On-line Resources,” and scroll down to Cloud Library. Once you enter your library card number and download the appropriate app, you can access fiction, non-fiction, best sellers, classics, young adult, and childrens’ books and enjoy these resources  on your personal media devices.
